Araby

The theme in Araby is infatuation and faith in humanity only leads to disappointment. While faith in humanity does not always lead to disappointment, infatuation does, Not only is infatuation a theme in Araby, but in our society as well.
While reading Araby, I realized that the boy, at his young age, had picked up on the skewed perception society has on love; it is not love, but infatuation that drives "relationships" forward. When looking at it from a third- party view, one can see how shallow it is to judge and love someone because of there looks, yet it happens repeatedly every day.

  1. That perspective on love shows a lot of true insight you have over it. To me, true love lies not within society's perception of what it is, but I desire it to lie within "agape" love (literally "unconditional love."). People can claim all they'd like that they've found someone or something in this world and claim to "love" it; but in reality, it is merely all just an obsession that clouds their true judgment in exchange for their relentless ambitions. But if many more people would find it in their hearts to show "agape" to one another, this world would become so much greater in itself than previously before. But, when their flawed perspective on love has become so thoroughly engraved into society, one can't really hope it will change. They can only hope to find others who do realize its true importance.
